Dr. Thomas A. Powers

A 26-year veteran of Siemens Hearing Instruments, Dr. Thomas A. Powers is currently the Vice President of Audiology and Professional Relations. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the audiological aspects of product development, exploring the newest technologies on the market, and then implementing them into hearing instruments that maximize effectiveness for the hearing-impaired community. He is also responsible for developing and implementing training programs for customers and Siemens staff on new products.
Dr. Powers joined Siemens in 1981 and worked in various capacities including Director of Audiology and Strategic Development. In 1988, he had the unique opportunity to fit former President Ronald Reagan with a Siemens hearing instrument, while he was in the White House. Prior to joining Siemens, Powers was a partner in an audiologic private practice from 1977 to 1979.
Dr. Powers has lectured extensively at state, national, and international conferences on hearing instrument technology, outcome measures, and directional microphone technology. In addition to his professional career in the hearing healthcare industry, Dr. Powers is on the advisory board for both Ohio University’s Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences and the Audiology and Speech Sciences Department of Purdue University. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), a member of the Academy of Dispensing Audiologists (ADA), a member of the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), from which he has obtained a Certification of Clinical Competence in Audiology, as well as a member and president of the American Auditory Society (AAS) for 2004 - 2006.
Dr. Powers holds a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo in speech and hearing science, plus a master’s degree and PhD in Audiology from Ohio University. He grew up in Schenectady, New York and currently resides in northern New Jersey
